Let your Local Councillors know you oppose the NHS Cuts & STP

Residents from Southend join over 200,000 others earlier this month in London to protest against NHS cuts.
Residents from Southend join over 200,000 others earlier this month in London to protest against NHS cuts.

The NHS STP (Sustainability & Transformation Plan) for Mid & South Essex is currently under review by Southend Borough Council. The Councillors – your elected representatives – have the power to reject this plan and tell the government they won’t let them potentially adversely affect the health of everybody living and visiting this part of Essex.

Southend and Chelmsford hospitals WILL be downgraded. The A&E departments at these two hospitals will not take 24 hr ambulance admissions, serious emergencies will have to go to the already overstretched Basildon hospital – along the heavily congested Essex roads.

Not only are A&E facilities affected but some specialist units are under threat and wards are very likely to close.

I have written more on the subject here:
NHS care in Southend put at risk by Mid & South Essex STP & Success Regime

And spoken in an Echo article here:
Hospital denies claims A&E will shut down at 10pm every night to streamline emergency care

Time is running out. If we don’t act swiftly, and together, these plans will be passed and implemented before we know what’s happened.

More action and public awareness campaigns are planned in the near future, but if YOU want to do your bit now then I urge you to contact your local ward councillors and tell them you object to the STP and want them to vote against it.

To find your councillors and email them easily, enter your postcode in the box below and you will be transferred to “WriteToThem.com” website where you can enter your message and send it with minimum fuss.

If you get a reply, why not share it as a ‘comment’ on this post?

  1. Thank you for your email. The final decision on the STP will be taken by NHS England, not Southend Council, but I’m sure that Labour Councillors will take every opportunity to express their views and argue against a damaging downgrade of services at Southend Hospital.

    Regards,
    Ian

    Victoria Ward Councillor
