Double Yellow Lines Painted – at last!

It may only seem a small thing, but something I have been extremely pleased to see, is the painting of double yellow lines on the junction of Mayfield Avenue and Beeleigh Close. It took almost 18 months from when I first approached Southend Council about this and the lines finally being painted, but my persistence paid off and the safety issue and inconvenience affecting nearby residents has finally been solved.

I was asked by couple of residents back in January 2016 if I could help them with this problem, they said that they had asked the Council and been told they couldn’t have double yellow lines put on the junction. It seemed a reasonable request to me – it was obviously a danger having the junction restricted by cars parked all around the corner, making it difficult to emerge from the close. There were also concerns that emergency vehicles may not be able to access the road – you can see how narrow it becomes with cars parked on it.

Several letters, emails and phone conversations later, and after a couple of promised completion dates that came and went, the double yellow lines were finally painted in June this year.
