I was on Southend High Street today, outside The Royals with PCSO Westall, issuing Child Safety wristbands to children. If you’re child’s wearing one of these and you become separated from each other, this will enable anyone who sees your lost child to contact you immediately by calling your mobile number, written on the inside of the band. Virtually all parents must know that heart-stopping moment when you realise that your child is not by your side and you can’t see where they are. Thankfully it’s usually only a matter of seconds before you see where they’ve wandered to, but imagine if it wasn’t. See where they’re available locally for free here.

I chatted to many families out shopping or on their way to have fun at Adventure Island and the beach, and almost without exception they all thought these bands were a great idea.

Today we were giving out disposable one-time use wristbands that you write your mobile phone number on, but for only £3-4 or less you can buy reusable ones. For your peace of mind and your children’s safety, it’s a minute price to pay. For children from about 7 years upwards – try to get them to memorise your mobile number.

I’m sure there are dozens of places you can buy these – here’s just one.
